Oracy Stars
At Blair Peach Primary School, we place oracy at the centre of our curriculum, ensuring all pupils develop strong speaking, listening and communication skills across every subject. We want our children to express their ideas clearly, adapt their language for different audiences and purposes, and take part in discussion with confidence and respect. We recognise that strong oracy underpins success in all areas of learning.
We provide regular, structured opportunities for talk across the curriculum, including discussion, debate and presentation. We explicitly teach pupils how to listen carefully, respond appropriately, ask questions and explain their thinking. By the time children leave Blair Peach Primary School, we expect them to be able to communicate clearly, justify their ideas and participate confidently in purposeful talk, using appropriate language for a range of contexts.

Every month, one child is chosen per class as an Oracy Star.
Each child chosen by will receive:
⭐ an oracy certificate
⭐ 5 house points
⭐ their name displayed on the Oracy Wall in the KS2 corridor
A headteacher’s award will also be given to 2 children and they will receive 10 house points!
Pupils chosen demonstrate:
⭐ confident speaking
⭐ clear expression of ideas
⭐ excellent listening
⭐ respectful discussion
⭐ great teamwork and turn-taking
