Seeing is Believing - Free Football Event in Southall, Ealing for Girls 6+ and Women 16+
Seeing is Believing, is an event presented by Gymkhana Women's Club and Indian Gymkhana Club, to promote football within the south Asian community.
Prior to the Women's World Cup in 2019, there were no south Asian players in the Women's Super League. Since, we have seen this number increase, as well as more of a spotlight placed on the south Asian community within football.
We see the potential for the south Asian female community to thrive within football, and want to promote and inspire girls to play football and be part of the football circle. We want to bring awareness to the opportunities available for females to join the game, provide a platform for role models to be seen and create an inclusive and accessible space for females to play and enjoy the sport.
As a result, we set up Seeing is Believing, a free football event for girls 6+ and women 16+, to have the opportunity to train with and receive mentoring from some of the biggest south Asian talents in football.
The next Seeing is Believing event is on Saturday 2nd April, from 11am to 4pm, at Featherstone Sports Centre, Montague Waye, Southall, UB2 5HF.
We will be joined by:
- Millie Chandarana (Blackburn Rovers WFC)
- Nav Singh (Arsenal Sport Scientist)
- Kira Rai (Derby County WFC)
- Harpreet Heer (Brentford WFC)
- Kaljit Atwal (Pro Football Freestyler) and more!
On the day, we will have a series of football activities and a tournament led by our special guests. There will be plenty of opportunities throughout the day to interact and ask questions to our guests, have fun and make new friends! We will also have the opportunity for parents/guardians to take part in a yoga session and to speak with our special guests. We have had two previous successful events with up to 40 players and expect this to be the biggest one yet!
Furthermore, as it’s World Autism Awareness Day, we will be hosting a fun football session for children with Autism from 12:30 - 1:30pm.
Some of our partners include Brentford FC Community Trust, Sporting Equals, Final Whistle, Desiballers, Featherstone SSP and Tottenham Wine. You can sign up for the event here: https://form.jotform.com/213165131023338.
If you would be able to forward this email to your membership schools (for students and staff) along with the attached flyer, we would really appreciate your support. You can contact gymkhanawfc@gmail.com or DM @gymkhana_wfc on Instagram for more information.
Please note, participants do not need to be of south Asian descent to join, the event is open to all females 6+ who would like to attend.
