In Maths, the children in Reception have been learning about Ordinal Numbers ( 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th). Children raced each other outside and were awarded rosettes depending on their positions. The teachers also raced and the children had to say who came 1st, 2nd, 3rd and last.
The children are currently studying ‘Homes and Houses’ in their Topic lessons.
They have been making caves from mixed media to show where some animals live, such as bears, spiders, bats, lizards, insects and snakes.
Reception children use the Adding Monster to help them with their sums.
This Week in Reception - 28th January
In Phonics, we will be learning the sounds ll, ss, zz and ff which are found at the end of words such as fluff, buzz, doll and hiss.
In English we will begin to read the story Biscuit Bear. Children will be learning about alliteration, such as cute cat or silly snake where the initial sounds of words are the same.
In Mathematics, we will be starting to look at subtraction within 10. Children will be thinking about number stories and saying the associated sum using actions. Children will be singing songs, counting and representing numbers pictorially and using manipulatives such as cubes, beads on threads and counters on number tracks.
In Knowledge we continue our topic of Changes. Children will be thinking about the changes in matter of state. In particular, children will be making icing sugar and thinking about how it changes when they add water. Children will be decorating a biscuit with their icing sugar.
